I have a SB Live 5.1 card and one of the old discontinued Klipsch 5.1 speaker sets. I mainly put the speakers to good use when listening to MP3's and what not. They put out amazing sound, but I can't help but wonder what it would sound like if I were using more than just half of them.
If I go into the SB creative sound mixer and run the test, it tells me which speaker it's using, and all 5 of them (RL, FL, C, FR, RR) are working as expected. I've gone through the control panel and set the sounds in there to 5.1 as well. But when unless I have a true 5.1 signal, such as a DVD, it doesn't use all 5 speakers. For example, using iTunes to listen to MP3's, I only get sound from the sub and the FR and FL speakers. The rears and center sit there quietly.
Iknow it's not a 5.1 source, but can the SB Live 5.1 hardware/software not just pipe it to all the speakers in a 5 channel stereo signal?
