Will the Blue Ray disk replace the DVD like the DVD replaces the VHS?

Yes it will, but it really depends on how many people are looking towards upgrading to a HDTV. Because I see no major difference between DVD and Blu-ray in a SDTV in fact I say it's worse if blue-ray were played on a SDTV. I still say Blu-ray beats DVD hands down but it's still dependent on what kind of TV you have.

The last statistic i heard of was that about 55% of all players of Gears of War 2 still played on a SDTV.

In my opinion, with the take off of the PS3 and other gaming console equipped with Blu-Ray, it wont be long before this becomes the norm. Retail stores are giving more and more floor space to Blu-Ray each day. I would say in less than 5 years will Blu-Ray be the running choice for video playing. It wont be long before you see Blu-Ray handheld recorders.
