Can I burn hd content onto a regular single layer dvd and play it on my xbox 360?

I have a 720p 4.35 gb mkv video file and i would like to burn it to a standard dvd and play it back in hd on my 360. I just got an hdtv but im still without a blu-ray player so im in need of a quick fix.
I can do if i could do, who's to say your capable of an answer?
ok i just downloaded mkv2vob, which changes the container, will my xbox play the 720p or down convert it to standard def?
 
could do if you can do. its possible but how can i say if your capable?
