Do you have to be in good physical fitness to be a police officer?

Now dont get me wrong last time i was pulled over my a fat police office now everytime i see this i think the rule doesnt apply
 
You have to be in good shape to become a police officer. After that knock yourself out and eat up on doughnuts!
 
I read the physical test to become a police in my city and state. The requirements are trivial. Anyone in even reasonable shape can qualify. Based on what I see in sheriff's uniform, there aren't any requirements there except a huge pot belly.

There doesn't seem to be any ongoing tests once you are a police though which is why you see all these fat wheezers in the uniform.
 
You have to be in good physical shape to BECOME a police officer. A lot of departments don't have fitness requirements after that.
However, you SHOULD stay in good physical shape after the Academy. It helps you do your job easier, and helps fight stress as well.
