how come a lot of my old 80s and 90s action movies seem better on dvd than blue ray?

or is it because I do not have an hd tv?

Do you think blue ray is over rated?

I need some money right now to pay the bills and I dont watch my blue rays I bought because the dvd's are actually better picture and sound on my tv.
or will it be worth it to keep once I invest in a new hd tv?
or maybe I can just re-buy everything again?
I basicly went out and bought ten of my favorite blue ray action movies. a few comedies and a movie collection box set. I have all these titles on dvd actually but I wanted to see them in superior quality.

If you do not have an HD TV then your blu-rays are useless. Blu-Rays are 6 times sharper than regular dvds. You could actually see more details like pores in the face and backgrounds are more clearer. I don't know if you also have an old computer monitor but if you have a newer computer you could see the quality of HD images. http://www.blu-ray.com/

Blu ray is definately not overrated. There is a difference not only in picture, but in sound quality. I think your tv may need to be upgraded.

To notice any difference you should buy a more evolved Tv Screen. Cause old screens cannot analyze the Blue-Ray signal, they are for analog image. So, it makes no difference if the dvd is hd or not.
On an HD TV I saw difference, the Blue Ray image is more clear and vivid, but for me old films and cartoons have something more realistic when in their original "picture form"! So, you plan and could get a flat screen some day, but till then if the dvds are watchable don't waste your money in new ones!
