how would i use a usb external dvd+rw to play backups of xbox 360 games?

I have purchased a program that backs up the .ISO file of my games. The XBOX360 will not read them. I've read things online about doing firmware updates to the xbox's DVD drive, I don't want to do anything to my xbox. I've read that if you have an external DVD
+rw you can use that... how do i do this?
