I am trying to use a Sony blue ray DVD player to connect to the internet to stream Netflix movies. I plugged an ethernet cable directly into the Comcast cable modem, but the blueray player cannot find the internet or get an IP address. When I plug my pc into the cable modem, it connects to the internet without any problem. Sony tells me I need a router for their device to connect...I just don't understand why a router should be necessary. Why does plugging directly to the modem not work? I don't want to go buy a router unless I need one. Thanks.
