My DVD Player Will Play Regular DVD's But Not Blue Rays?

For the past few years I had been saving up tickets from one of the arcades on the boardwalk at the beach. It took me about 3 or 4 years, but this past summer I finally cashed in my tickets and tokens (I literally had 2 rubbermaid tubs filled to the top with tickets.) I cashed them all in for a blue ray dvd player since the one I had before wasn't working and I've always wanted a blue ray dvd player. I set it all up and everything with my dad's help, we read the directions and everything, and tried it out. I actually had one blue ray disc to test it with. (I had gotten the movie for Christmas last year and it was a blue ray, so I tested my player with that.) It wouldn't work. We had everything set up correctly, and followed the instructions, but my movie wouldn't play. So then I tested my dvd player with one of my non blue ray movies. The movie I happened to test it with was Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix. That played perfectly. So I've just been watching regular non blue ray movies on it ever since I got. Now today when I was opening my presents, I had gotten Despicable Me which happens to be a blue ray. I thought, 'I wonder if it still rejects blue rays?' so I put the movie in, and just as I thought, it immediately rejected the dvd. I would really love to know why on earth it's doing this. Like I said before, it works perfectly fine otherwise. It's a Sharp player, and the code thing is BD-HP210U. I went on Sharp's website to see if I could find anything out but I can't, and there's nothing in the instruction manual like in the troubleshooting section. This is really starting to bother me, because I really want to watch my blue rays (especially Despicable Me) on a regular basis. Someone please help me! Thank you!
*we have another blue ray player down in our family room that plays blue rays just fine. It's a Sony. I'm not sure what the model/code number thing for it is. All's I know is that it's a Sony blue ray player and it actually plays blue rays perfectly fine (as well as non blue rays.) We've had the player for a few years.
