My ipod nano 1st generation will not connect to itunes everytime i try to pull...

...it up it stops working HELP?!?!? I have tried reinstalling itunes as well and trying to pull it up on a different computer and the result is always the same. When I plug in the ipod itunes pulls up and immediately gives an error message that itunes has stopped working and is shutting down. Anybody have any ideas for what i can do to correct this problem.
