I know some nice games. I would prefer the "run, punch, kick, beat boss, next stage" game.

The Warriors (nice gangsters game)
Red Star (shoot, jump, dodge, beat boss, next stage)
King Arthur
Pirate Of The Caribbean
Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance
Bleach 2 (japanese but understandable)
Ninja Turtles

Try lord of the rings Return of the king or two towers, they are alot of fun and is a hack n slash game with leveling up which unlocks new moves and combos, its pretty fun
