When using ConvertXtoDVD, why is the file size of my DVD always bigger when

set to Letterbox? For example, I converted an AVI file to DVD using the automatic video resize method and the end result was 1.68 GB and that same file when converted using letterbox was 2.76 GB. Why is this? Is the picture quality better with letterbox?
