why doesnt the xbox dvd drive play games when switched to another xbox?

i got an xbox from my friend and fixed it cause it had the rrod. now it works great. now in the origanl xbox, i took out the dvd drive and put it into another xbox that is currently broken (error e65) to see if it would work. to my surprise it DID work. the xbox booted just fine and worked.


but.... the drive when i have it in the 2nd xbox only plays dvds and stuff, but wont play games. it gives me the scrren that says to put the game into an xbox 360.



when i placed that same dvd drive back into the origanle xbox it came from, it worked just fine. played games just fine.


so my question is why? why does it only play dvds but no games when i try to transfer it? obveosly xbox knows its there and doesnt have a probablem with the keys if its not giving me the e65 error and its playing dvds just fine.


so why does it not play games in the 2nd xbox?
sorry but that wont work. the one has 4 ribbens on it and the other only has 3. its 2 dif. drives. ones a ben-q and the other a hatachi.
 
Because apparently some how each Xbox is assigned a certain DVD drive... BUT there is a way to work around this!

First, get the drive that you want to use... then disassemble the outer "shell" until you can see what looks like a small motherboard-ish thing on the bottom. It's the standard computer chip green color, and most likely will have what looks like hard melted plastic on it. The way you know for sure what i am talking about is if every single "ribbon" cable/connection of the DVD drive goes to this board and connects to it, i THINK there are about three total "ribbon" cables that connect to it. Now what you have to do, is disconnect these "ribbon" cables from the board and take it out. Then all that's left to do is swap the boards... So put the board from the DVD drive you don't want to use anymore into the new one, and that's it! it should work now!

By the way, i am so sorry for my horrible explanation above haha I know the whole hands on part, i just never bothered learning the proper terms :D
