why would my blue ray dvd player have a broken picture?

The picture looks like when cable tv is freezing up.

Have you checked your bluray disc? Probably it had scratches on it? If yes, you should try with another new disc..

Either a dirty disc or a dirty laser lens (which is pretty rare on BDs). Clean the disc thoroughly with windex -- dry it thoroughly and try it again. Can I assume it pauses at the same spot, and only on one disc? If it happens across the board, on a lot of discs, it's probably the player -- get it serviced!
