blue ray file rip, convert to play in standard dvd player?

after i download a digital copy of ablue ray disc it will not play in a standard dvd player. the file type in windows explore says vlc media file. it will play on pc but not dvd player. i think i need to convert them. how would i go about doing that?
 
Numerous video converters out there; do a search for video converter or frreeware video converters and you will get a plethora of results.
