I just bought a PS3 80 gig the newer one. As I was told you can get a software update that will let me play my PS2 games on my PS3. If this is true can someone tell me how to get this software update so I can play my PS2 games on my PS3 system, I'd appeated it. Thank you

There is rumored to be a future software update that will allow you to emulate playing PS2 games/or bringing PS2 games to download from the PSN Store but that is a rumor.

Currently there is no way to download an update that will enable PS3 models with 2USB slots to play PS2 games. It is a hardware and technical issue that has not allowed the current PS3's to play PS2 games.

If it's a new one and has 2 USB port's then it can't play PS2 games, apart form the software update it still need's the PS2 graphic's chip, which the new 80GB doesn't have.
If you've got 4USB port's its the old 80GB, so the PS2 software update should appear on the PS Store.

you dont need any update to play ps2 games on a ps3. its the same way with the ps2. you can play ps1 games on the ps2, no problemo. you just can't backtrack and play a ps2 game on the ps1. same for the ps3.

ps2 game on ps3= yes
ps3 game on ps2= no
