How do you burn torrents onto disc so they will play on a non divx dvd player?

Okay

So i downloaded a torrent via bit torrent. It's an mp4 file and i can play it fine on my computer with the VLC media player. I want to burn it to a disc, I imported it to itunes and burnt it, and it worked on my computer and our mac computer but none of our dvd players worked ( not divx dvd players) i am currently converting it to a wmv. file and hopefully that way i can burn it via windows media player

can someone give me some advice as to whether i am taking the correct route. If not, what should I be doing to get my torrents to play on a non-divx dvd player
 
You need to convert them to Avi / wmv file to play in Divx enabled player. You need to use converters like Xilisoft to convert it to VOB files to play it in non-Divx player.
