how to connect the ps3 to sony Surround sound home theatre system?

Anyone help me i've tried just about everything and still nothings working i think i might just go back to the xbox360 slim "i think that ps3 is awesome " free online play and all the games you want for 9.99 but the xbox360 has less compatibility issues. Can anyone please give me some info on hooking the surround sound up before i trade my system in?

Optical cable from the PS3 to the receiver and use the same cable you are using now for video to the TV

Most home theater systems don't have HDMI inputs because they suck. But if your TV has an empty HDMI input, just connect your PS3 to your TV and run the audio from your TV to your home theater system.
