I have an xbox 360 hooked up to a vizio 42" 1080p lcd hdtv with an hdmi cable. So far, I have been very impressed to see my standard dvds enhanced (I didn't know an xbox could do that til I hooked up everything)
but still I am interested in purchasing a surround sound system, and some come with blue ray players. I dont know whether the extra money that would be invested into the blue ray coming along with the package if the picture compared to the xbox isnt that huge of a difference.

I could use some advice on whether a blue ray is truly worth the extra cheddah haha

If so, or if not, which sound system would you recommend?
(unfortunately I have a budget of about $200-275)

Blu-ray is way better than the Xbox 360's dvd player, trust me. I got a Blu-ray recently and I've been comparing a lot. Just yesterday I put a DVD version of Pirates of the Caribbean into the Xbox and it was hard to look at after watching movies like Avatar and Toy Story 3 on Blu-ray.

Also, I saw a bunch of $100 Vizio Blu-ray players at Walmart about a month ago (Well kind of.. they were all sold out).

Long story short, Blu-Ray is to DVD as DVD is to VHS.

Look at the Panasonic BD-85 blu ray disc player, it is rated as one of the best entry level player in the market today and the most reliable. I own a Panasonic BD-10 which is the first generation and have had no problem playing over 300 blu ray disc movies on it. The blu ray disc is capable of the 1080P and 7.1 surround sound. You XBOX is not capable of the 1080P and only 1080i. If the dvd movie is a poor quality is will look worst when up converted. Hope this will help you out.
