...for family vacations? My girls who are 7 and 12 love going to caribbean for spring break, but this year we are thinking of going in May to save money. We wouldn't be able to go after school gets out for the year because my girls both play softball and my husband and I both coach their teams. My girls get straight A's and are very responsible about school work. We would get any assignments that they would miss before we leave and take it with us. Also, I make sure any excursions we do while on vacation are educational. For example, we take a tour of their schools and visit a family to see what their daily life is like. I'd appreciate honest opinions. Thank you.
As a student, I'd get pissed that other kids are somewhere warm when I am stuck in school.
As a teacher you have to remember that they don't cater to your children, they cater to a classroom. I have missed time from school and teachers refused to give me any work because they stated that they hadn't planned that far ahead. If you speak to the teacher and ask them if they will allow a prolonged deadline on certain things or extra time to do homework I am sure they would allow it.
However, many teachers don't necessarily "like" the idea of students missing school to go on vacation. I completely understand your reasoning to do it in the school year, but school is important, and to teachers, they find it disrespectful. I have seen many fellow classmates get penalized for taking a vacation during the school year.
But, the teacher cannot fail them for it if you give them fair warning. In all honesty, with your permission, it is really none of the school's business why your kids are out of school - you could just say a relative is sick and enough said. Not encouraging you to lie, lol, just saying.
